iPhone South Africa 3G is here from Apple, it is already big and so is the price tag coming in at about R6400 for the 8GB model and around R7600 for its 16GB bigger brother. The previous 2G model never arrived in SA which makes this more exciting and this new handset is far superior in every respect. This one is a bit wider and slightly thicker than the older model, but it provides full 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS support alongside a much better battery life.
This brand new iPhone for South Africa is so many things rolled into one handset which perhaps justifies the price a little. It’s a phone, an ipod media player, web browser for surfing the Internet and e-mail device which is all accessed on the large, crystal clear touch screen. The on-screen buttons can be used to access the menu features such as browsing the Internet, accessing iTunes, or hit the ‘Mail’ icon and a virtual keyboard appears allowing the user to type an e-mail or text message. In every SA review of the Apple iPhone 3G we read that the touch screen buttons take a little getting used to at first but once a user gets the hang of things, there’s no going back to real buttons.
We read a lot of cellphone reviews online and there are definitely other handsets with similar features and a few of them are even better at delivering certain individual tasks such as email or text entry, the Nokia N96 mobile phone handset comes to mind. But for a really modern, sexy and sleek package that oozes coolness, there is very little available in shops around SA to touch this model from Apple. Vodacom is offering the iPhone in this country but there is a limit to the amount of handsets available so it may be a struggle to get your hands on one, there was a waiting list before it even arrived here! All in all, this is a great piece of technology for those wanting the latest in mobile’s and every review of the iPhone South Africa agrees to that.
